Nightwatchman

I wanted to scrap an unfinished portrait on a oblong canvas but I didn't want to get rid of the intense red background. So I ended up painting over the unfinished science fiction knight and was left with just this red background. What came out of my brush next was unplanned and led to three hours of obsessive painting.

In a strange homage to fantasy, The Night Watch and the movie Labyrinth I have this awkward little man hanging above my nightstand watching over me until I can either sell him or find a more proper place to hang him. I think I might become attached to him.

Last Train Out of Morpork

Going over a Swedish interview with 50 Cent(Curtis James Jackson III)I noticed a headline on the side in Swedish that I couldn't understand but I knew the face above it. It was Terry Pratchett. I went to Google the newest headlines on the beloved author and discovered that he was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's.

I read through a few articles on the matter; as disheartening as it was. He seems optimistic and refuses to quit writing or working.

Know mostly for his Discworld series he has risen to the height of fame in the fantasy community; selling more than 55 million copies world wide in 33 languages.

The Day of Infammy

Today is a special day for some of us.

Today is also a day that a lot of people seem to forget at times. Being from an all military family and growing up on the island of Oahu has made me sensitive on the subject. It's an important date to my home, my family and to the people who should never forget how vulnerable we really are.

Pondering Piggelsworth

Mr. Piggelsworth had a short life on my bedroom wall before being sold to the first bidder. After a short shipment he has a home in New Jersey. While he was moving in I was being commissioned to make him a twin.
I've received the first installment of the commission payment so tomorrow I begin the task of churning out a Piggelsworth on wheels. Not my style in the slightest but I was honored by the request and I am rather fond of Piggelsworth. I may make him a repeat person. I am not entirely sure yet; not looking forward to tomorrow either. However I know once I begin I'll become obsessed with finishing the project. I may even slip down to the library for some pictures and literature on bikes to help me along.

Over Another Rainbow

I anticipated the premiere of Tin Man with an impatient optimism. With stars I admire like Zooey Deschanel, Alan Cumming and Richard Dreyfuss taking on the task of giving this very loved classic a new modern spin you can't lose right? Everything they touch turns to gold right?

Alan Cumming gave Titus the vile, bold Saturninus. Matt Hooper, the famous character from Jaws? No one can forget Dreyfus' expressions in that flick. The ever lovely daughter of Caleb Dechanel; Zooey Dechanel as Kat in Weeds and Trillian in the book-to-movie adaptation of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy has her as a sci-fi pinup girl.

A winning cast right; with a winning plot!

Well, half of that is right. I was completely impressed with the plot, character development in the first two episodes but something was bugging me. Television veteran Neal McDonough portrays an incredible character with depth. The Tin Man, Cain, is easy to admire and love as a character. He is dark, rugged and full of heart in his paladin ways; but you have to look past Neal's performance to really get into it. His performance of this main character leaves me craving something more, something less over dramatized.

He lacked, there I said it! I didn't enjoy his performance in this one folks. Neal McDonough is a talented actor and has the talent to take a character off the page and bring him life. I didn't see him live up to the full potential in this one. I honestly feel he could of lived up or even surpassed the performance of his fellow cast members.

He has a chance to set me straight with his upcoming release of Traitor in which he co-stars with the very talented Don Cheadle.

If you haven't caught the episodes on the Sci-Fi channel you still have a chance to play catch up Sci-Fi.com. All aired episodes are available to stream and view.

Despite my cries of disappointment in Mr. Donough's performance the entire show is worth the stream or cost of On-Demand ordering. Presented in widescreen format, the cinematography, costuming, sets and plot is sure to make it a cult classic that Sci-Fi couldn't of foreseen. Obscure and well known references to the Victor Fleming film classic of 1939, L. Frank Baum's book and The Wiz (though I didn't see it) made me giggle; and sometimes slap my forehead. It's a pulp fiction melting pot of the best fantasy/sci-fi elements.

I'm sure most fans will be snagging it up as soon as they release it on DVD and other formats.

And why not? It's a keeper.

With the American dollar dropping and the price of fuel going through the roof once again it is no surprise that people aren't shopping. I admittedly went out to do a bit of holiday shopping but it wasn't crowded. The experience was actually pleasant and I didn't want to get visceral with any other patrons.

However the experience was short lived and I made off with minimal amounts of present propaganda. I've taken to making my own ornaments, stockings and cooking a lot more. I do it to save money which really is in vain since I just end up spending what I can on Christmas gifts for family. Which mostly means sending Christmas cards in my perfect penmanship and making long distance phone calls to foreign countries; it's not like our money isn't going overseas anyways.

First Post

I find myself wandering away from Livejournal to pursue writing in other formats. Although I will retain my Livejournal account I think I may take to this format more often for regular updates.
